Choose your Spitzkoppe adventure
Rock Arch walk — easy scenery and photographs. Explore the natural arch and surrounding granite landscape at a relaxed pace. Ask us to match the route to your available time and preferred walking level.
San rock paintings — a guided cultural outing. Discover rock art with a guide. We confirm the site, access arrangements and walking difficulty before booking; tell us if you prefer an easier approach.
Chain-assisted cave viewpoint — a more adventurous walk. Follow a steep, chain-assisted section to a cave with views across the landscape. Confidence on rock and with heights matters. Discuss suitability with us before choosing this outing.
Sunset hike — 1–2 hours, easy to moderate. Walk towards a granite-dome viewpoint in the Spitzkoppe / Rock Arch area. The usual departure is about 1½ hours before sunset, with the exact time and route confirmed for your date. Ask about an optional sundowner setup.

False Summit hike and scramble
For a longer mountain day, follow the Gulley Route towards Spitzkoppe’s False Summit, at approximately 1,650 metres. This combines hiking with hands-on scrambling through granite passages and exposed terrain.
Allow 5–6 hours including descent. Moderate to challenging. N$1,950 per person. Good fitness and confidence on steep rock are needed. A N$3,500 guide drive-out fee per trip may apply if no local guide is available; we confirm the full group total before booking. Meals, accommodation and guest transport are excluded.
Climb Away’s route presentation identifies the Gulley Route as the preferred option. The approach from Boulder Valley develops into chain-assisted sections and scrambling towards the south-west ridge, with views towards the Pontoks and Kleine Spitzkoppe. Guided rock climbing

Route knowledge from Climb Away’s Spitzkoppe guide
The 2026–2027 Spitzkoppe Rock Climbing Overview prepared for Freddy covers the main summit, the False Summit, single-pitch climbing and longer multi-pitch routes. Here are specific areas and route examples to discuss when planning your visit.
Boulder Valley: single-pitch climbing. The presentation places this area on the west side of Spitzkoppe and highlights Lion Rock, Dinosaur Rock and Elephant Rock. A single-pitch outing lets you focus on individual roped climbs. Tell Freddy whether you are new to climbing or already climb regularly so you can discuss suitable routes.
Sugar Loaf, Rhino Horn and Klipdachswand: multi-pitch options. These are the areas named in the presentation’s easier multi-pitch section. It includes Rosdina, a seven-pitch sport route, and shorter multi-pitch examples such as Goldfinger. Multi-pitch climbing continues through several roped sections with belay stops; an “easier” climbing category still requires a discussion of experience, exposure and the descent.
The Pontoks: advanced climbing. Pontok Spitz, Pontok One and Pontok Two feature in the advanced section. Named examples include To Bolt or Not To Bolt, Two Peg Arch and Beyond Plaisir. These are examples from the route collection, with the choice for your trip confirmed according to your experience and conditions.
The true Spitzkoppe summit: the Normal Route. The presentation identifies the Normal Route for the main summit, approximately 1,728 metres high. This is a long mountain outing that combines an approach, scrambling, technical rock climbing and a substantial descent. It is a different undertaking from the 5–6 hour False Summit hike.
